Senator
Dick Moore was born in
Milford, and grew up in Hopedale graduating from
Hopedale High School.
He is a
graduate of Clark University in Worcester and holds a
Masters Degree from Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y.
Prior to entering the Legislature, Senator Moore worked
as Associate Dean of Students at Assumption College,
Worcester and Assistant to the President of Bentley
College, Waltham. He has taught at the college level and
teaches part-time as an Assistant Professor in the
Public Administration graduate program at Bridgewater
State College.
First
elected to public office in his hometown of Hopedale
(1970-1978), Senator Moore was chosen to lead the
Massachusetts Selectmen’s Association as President in
1975-76. He was elected to the Massachusetts House of
Representatives and served nine terms holding three
different standing committee chairmanships during his
tenure.
In 1994, he
was nominated by President Bill Clinton and confirmed by
the U. S. Senate, as Associate Director of the Federal
Emergency Management Agency (now part of the U.S.
Department of Homeland Security) dealing with natural
disasters and terrorism events.
In 1996, he returned to
Massachusetts to be elected Senator of the Worcester and
Norfolk District, and currently serves as Senate Chair
of the Legislature’s influential Committee on Health
Care.
He is
married to the former Joanne Bednarz of Uxbridge.
Senator and Mrs. Moore reside in Uxbridge. |
